Have you Heard? Sir Nikolai Hamburg is open! A friend of a friend told me so...
The hotel is a home of a fictional character, Sir Nikolai, a mysterious gentleman said to be a descendant of a great old merchant family and who nowadays represents the Modern Aristocrat.
As the urban Legend goes, Sir Nikolai is the most dazzling of hosts who is always open to welcoming his guests mainly belonging to his big circle of acquaintances. This story is about a Great Traveler and a businessman, a man about town and his city home. Sir Nikolai’s place in Hamburg is located on the aptly Named Nikolaifleet; precisely between the old city and the Harbour.
You can sample this new destination first hand by becoming a guest - staying at Sir Nikolai should feel like staying at your stylish best friend’s place.
As always in great families, the possibility to extend one’s property does not come along very often; and when it did for Sir Nikolai, action was immediately taken. The city mansion and adjacent goods warehouse are now remodeled and ready to welcome guests.
Rich in detail, the main body of the house is boasting objects which have found their special way into Sir Nikolai’s Library; some were collected through the years of his many travels, while others are mementos of his mysterious aristocratic family. Hard wearing and noble in its nature, the Terrazzo Flooring is a reminder of the Venetian Palatio and the inherited Bohemian Chandelier has dazzled many generations of great men and women before him.
As far as the exterior, it is a modern office building with only a classical entrance port. FG stijl have managed to create a sense of history with a forward-looking design.
FG stijl created interlocking spaces across the public areas, each with its own individual atmosphere, insuring that the guests can have several favorite areas to sit.
A metaphorical grand family Library, the Study is a smart, yet elegant space where guests can enjoy a glass of champagne or a coffee prior to retreating to one of the hotel’s 94 luxurious guestrooms. The smoked oak herringbone flooring in the Study is mixed with dark floor-to-ceiling shelves full of handpicked books by local and international writers, whose company would put the worldly city of Hamburg on your map of travels. The client’s idea here is that guests and locals have space to work and meet, read or relax, having the ability to sit socially and be involved with other people, but not be engaged.
The Patio and IZAKAYA Asian kitchen & bar
Once a warehouse quarter, the rear of the building now houses the Izakaya Bar and Restaurant fulfilling the demands of Sir Nikolai’s very social friends for fine wines, cocktails and food of his much loved and travelled Japan and Peru. A private salon serves as a direct connection to the heart of the Building and the many windows pay homage to the majestic views of the City of Hamburg with its grand flow of tide.
The complete ground floor can be divided into individual private spaces, perfect for party’s and late night drinking. Always retaining a comfortable ambiance.
94 Rooms and Suites
A variety of room types has been created - from a one night stay to a second-home feeling. Each room type has individual character, from art to drinks trolleys, from window seats to freestanding baths. All marked by the feeling of pampering and effortless chic.
The many guestrooms are full of Sir Nikolai’s personal mementoes and custom-made furniture. Thoughtfully prepared goodie boxes contain all essentials to make one feel expected and welcomed. Guests will enjoy velvet upholstery, elegant wooden working desks, Marshall Bluetooth speakers, unique vintage rugs and a glass bar cart ready with all cocktail essentials, including fresh lemon and lime.
Contemporary artworks include those made by international names such as Aaron Rose and Katrin Szekessy, as well as local artists the likes of Henning Kles and Irmgard Nolte. As all great hosts, ours is always on the move, but fortunately his presence is constantly felt in his home in Hamburg. You may have just missed him by moments on your arrival, but the promise of an evening with Sir Nikolai is an eternal invitation.
A private dining area and a 300 sqm spa, including a gym, an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and treatment rooms on the lower level with views of the canal, will open in the second half of 2017.
The SPA personnel are the finest in the Art of Massage and Oriental healing, whose expert hands will ease the strain of even the most traveled guests.
